Breakin' Some Glass

It's been a long time since I've even turned on my laptop at home! My last real post was the "boo hoo, I'm leaving my home" post. I'm pretty much over it. I promise. At least for now!

This week redefined "crazy." There were a few times when I honestly thought I was going to stroke out. My blood pumped hard through my veins and I started seeing spots, both of which are signs of (very) high blood pressure!

It started out with my usual plethora of Monday meetings and between all the fires I had to extinguish, I was stuck at work into the evening. Ditto that on Tuesday, so by Wednesday (my wedding anniversary with Jack!), I had already surpassed 40 hours and was dragging major tail. To celebrate the occasion, Jack booked us at a cozy little steakhouse nearby, where they put fresh flowers on our table to honor our anniversary. After a glass of wine and with a full belly, I fell fast asleep at the late witching hour of 8:30 pm.

Sorry about that, Jack! I'll make it up to you!

While this year was a bust, we're traveling to Maui for our ten-year anniversary next year. We're going to renew our vows on the beach in Maui at sunset, just like we talked about on our honeymoon, nine years ago. It's one of those landmark dreams and while I envisioned Jack sliding a new diamond-crusted band on my finger, I kind of like my old, plain, beat-up gold wedding band. It's been through a lot…as have we!

Work continued its trademark craziness yesterday and today, as I logged longer hours than I ever have before. But some of the hours I've been spending are with physicians, advancing those relationships and building better bridges between the hospital's administration and the medical groups. Other hours are my ongoing projects and committees. And still others are where I'm "breakin' some glass" and reorganizing departments and starting new programs.

That's the administrators' expression for change. We're "breakin' some glass!" We joke that we're borrowing each others' hammers and that folks should wear thick-soled shoes so they don’t cut their feet on the glass! So that's what I've really be doing, is breakin' some glass!
