"Roll, Roll, Roll!"

It's been a long time since I've posted a live blog...I need to fill you in on what's really going on around here. And what was with that post on Monday, that picked the arbitrary time of 1:16 PM to post? At 1:16 PM on Monday, I was in an organizational meeting with physician consultants...not blogging. Oh well.

Anyway, the last three days have become a "survival of the fittest" exercise again. On Monday, I represented Admin at the graduate medical education monthly committee. I didn't write the administrative report, but that didn't stop me from presenting it. Then we had the physician strategists in, took a physician to lunch, I had a "finance for dummies" class with the VP of Finance, and then sat through a 4.5 hour meeting of the physician practice committee. The whole 14 hour day was doctor-laden.

Then on Tuesday, I attended my normal slew of Tuesday morning meetings. I had to leave to go don my elf outfit. Complete with ears. And no, I do not have photo evidence of this. You will have to take me at my word on this one! Anyway, everyone in Admin dressed up to serve the employees lunch and dinner. Elvis was Santa; the CNO, HR lady, and me were elves, and Sister Lourdes and all the Finance guys were "accountant elves." That means they wore Santa hats!

I wouldn't have minded this commitment if it ended at dinner. At 7pm, I had to run back to my Chicagoland house for a couple errands and to pick up another day's clothes (and toiletries). Everyone in Admin was also expected to serve the midnight dinner for the third shifter's. I took a catnap at home, jumped out of my skin when the alarm went off 25 minutes later, washed my face, grabbed my bag, and headed back to the hospital. Dinner went well, but everyone was either sleeping on their feet, completely hyped up on sugar and slaphappy, or completely normal. The two that were completely normal really ticked me off. After the 30-odd hours we've already worked this week (and it was Tuesday), how can you be NORMAL?!

Instead of driving a half hour back to my house at 2:30 in the morning, I bunked in the Sisters' call room for a few hours. I had a 7:30 meeting, so I crashed on Sister Lourdes' futon for three hours. I entertained thoughts of just working through the night to meet a publication deadline and a grant proposal submission deadline...but when my eyes involuntarily cross, I know it's time to sleep.

Wednesday was a repeat of the same elf/Santa/reindeer parade to serve the employees. We rallied in the morning, all of us completely slaphappy and exhausted...but the employees really liked seeing Admin not take themselves too seriously. Rocco, our VP of Public Relations, kept trying to convince every employee that they simply needed a piece of pumpkin roll (it's this cream-cheese stuffed wonder that our hospitals chefs make from scratch). Instead of his traditional "ho, ho, ho," Santa started saying "roll, roll, roll!" Then he sounded like a dog making attempts at elementary speech. What was even more hysterical was that Santa could not attempt the "ho, ho, ho" or "roll, roll, roll" without grabbing his stomach (stuffed with pillows). We couldn't tell if he was getting into the part or if, when he laughed, the pillows threatened to spill forth!

We're a hoot at St. Fozzie's. That'll happen to sleep-deprived, over-worked, over-caffeinated, over pumpkin-rolled administrators!

  1. It's funny that you felt the need to tell us about the time stamp on your previous post! As if we all just looked at it and thought that you were slacking or making all of this stuff up as you go! Silly girl, no one could make this stuff up!! And...I'm very proud of all of your accomplishments even if I have to have a dictionary next to me as I "follow along" Great job now take care of yourself or I will have to come and kick you in the shins!

  2. Yeah, I have to agree. What the heck, girl? Yes, I am logging your posts, matching them up with whether it's "work time" or "play time." You're a nerd!
