Easter Eve

Happy Easter Eve to everyone! I guess, technically, I should be wishing you a happy Easter vigil. Details, details!

Tomorrow is Easter, the last official holiday that Jack and I will host. Easter has been "our" holiday ever since we moved into our current home. We have an open floor plan, which lends itself well to family get-togethers. We also like hosting Easter because as Catholics, we usually give up sweets for Lent....giving us poetic license to buy 13 kinds of Easter candy and gorge on lamb cakes. One year, my brother, Brady, ate so many Cadbury mini-eggs that we thought he was going to, well, regurgitate a technicolor display. Again, I digress!

So Easter has been "ours" for the last six years. Jack and I started hosting Christmas Day, too, a few years ago when our extended family grew too large to fit us all in one house. By hosting these two holidays, we've woven a nice tapestry of traditions, both Catholic and Polish. I hope these traditions continue as things change this next year. I know you're thinking, what type of weird traditions are you talking about? Well, does your family eat lamb cake, kielbasa, and dance a couple polkas?!

After 40 days of fasting, Polish folks traditionally celebrate the day after Easter (Dyngus Day). Jack and I used to Dyngus by visiting the west-side American Legion posts or Democratic clubs. For one admission price, you can get unlimited kielbasa, pierogi's, and cheap beer. After a couple beers, it's nothing to get up and polka with your fellow Poles. But since Jack and I had to grow up and become real adults (a.k.a with careers and school), we haven't been able to bust a move, polka-style. So we migrated a few, select activities to Easter Sunday. Pictures to come!
