Drinking the Koolaid

I will be traveling the rest of the week, so I will not have a whole lot to say until after I'm back. I am visiting Verona, Wisconsin, at the Epic headquarters, on Tuesday-Wednesday. They're having all the execs board two mega coach buses and they're trucking everyone up to Wisconsin so we can drink the Epic koolaid.

I'm kidding. Of course we will receive a thorough overview of the Epic systems and how its implementation in Muppetville will be smooth and problem-free. Epic is Muppetville's new electronic medical records integrated solutions vendor; we're visiting Epic Systems, not Epic Records. Although the trip to Epic Records would definitely be a cooler experience for the blog and would justify some Guitar Hero!

The mega bus trip makes me laugh. The only bus trips I've taken during my lifetime have either involved school trips to the Shedd Aquarium or massive amounts of beer en route to a Major League Baseball game. So this will be unique...a big bus trip with a bunch of execs, without beer, and without the dazzling undersea world of coral and dolphins pending our arrival. Nurse Jackie and I already agreed to sit together, so at least I'll have a dazzling conversational partner for the five-hour trip.

It's either that or pack the ear plugs!

The trip is business casual (hurray, no suits!) and Epic rented out a whole restaurant so us Muppeteers can dine together Tuesday night. EVOO asked me if I'd go for a run with him early Wednesday morning. How do you politely tell your COO that you'd rather eat a live pigeon than go running at 5:30 a.m.?

I'm sure this trip will come with lots of stories! Stay tuned. Soundtrack will be available on CD.

Then on Thursday, I have an office day during which I have meetings from 9-5:30 p.m., no breaks. I'm kicking off an intense physician partnership training session Thursday afternoon. On Friday, I will spend 6+ hours in the car, driving to and home from a two-hour interview in Indy.

They won't let me teleconference.

I'm still going to the interview for the whole executive interview experience, and to completely discern the feasibility of this position. Sigh. The discernment continues!
