7 Quick Takes on a Friday

1. Is it normal when your "smart phone" turns out to be smarter than you are? As a quasi-technologically-savvy consumer, I thought I could handle this phone. So far, turns out it's best for checking my facebook account while I'm stopped at railroad crossings.

2. Why are there Interstate highways in Hawaii? Our friends, Kim and Jassie, are on their way to Hawaii right now. We miss you and hope the gorgeous scenery is every bit as beautiful as on "Forgetting Sarah Marshall!"

3. Today was moving day, part uno. I moved to my new office (in a quiet part of the building, filled with lots of windows) today, but it was so close to my boss' office that I could hear her munching on her carrot sticks. I guess it's not *that* quiet. Nonetheless, today was my last official day as contract analyst, as The Edge is taking over on Monday. My life as a nomad has begun! I'll be in this temporary office until I leave for Fozzie Heights.

4. I received an invitation to a full-out ethics immersion at another one of the system hospitals, St. Gonzo's. They have their bi-annual ethics symposiums with the hospital physicians, residents, chaplains, and execs the day after I return from vacation (hey, at least I'll be tan and I can wear that pale yellow blouse that normally makes me look like death). All the more reason to bathe in Purell and *not* get sick on vacation. Seriously though, I'm honored to be included in the ethics meetings at St. Gonzo's...a couple of my professional contacts are already proving to be worth the time networking.

5. Tomorrow is the bioethics conference at Notre Dame. Did I mention the hall in which the conference is scheduled is *right* across the street from the anti-abortion, Odrama protesting folks? Yeah...that should be an interesting experience! The first lecture tomorrow pertains to the Church's stance on condom usage in AIDS stricken countries. Let the ethical hopscotch begin!

6. I'm watching The Notebook right now and I cannot understand why Ali agreed to marry that Marine guy. He seems like such a sly dog and Noah was back at home, redoing a whole plantation for her. I guess I'm on "team Noah." Such a sweet movie and I think it's on my all-time top favorites list. Along with Pretty Woman, Ever After, and Legally Blonde. Despite my neo-feminism, I apparently have a Cinderella complex!

7. There was a wicked rumor going around work today, about me. Why do I attract the negative press? Anyway, HR contacted my boss to verify that I was really going to Mexico for vacation. Someone said that someone said that someone said that someone said I was going to Mexico, despite the travel warnings. My boss clarified my travel plans to HR, that I was merely planning to lick every Mexican hand and public handrail. She offered to send out a blanket email to the office detailing my non-Mexican cruise itinerary. I could barely hear her over the carrot-crunching. I declined, figuring the rumor mill would work its genius soon enough. I HATE gossip. Nothing good ever results from it.

This weekend is busy, with the ethics conference and with my graduation honor society induction/hooding ceremonies. Is it too early to start packing for my decidedly non-Mexican vacation?
