I'm leaving...on a highway

All my boxes are packed, I’m ready to go
I’m standing here, outside my door.
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye.
But the truck is here, It’s early morn.
The movers are waiting, they’re blowing their horn.
Already I’m so lonesome I could cry…

So kiss me and smile for me.
Tell me that you’ll pray for me.
Hold me like you’ll never let me go.
'Cause I’m leaving on a highway.
Know that I’ll be back in a week.
Oh Jack, I hate to go…

There are so many times I’ve read my books,
So many times I’ve written papers,
I tell you now, they don’t mean a thing.
Every place I go, I’ll think of you.
Every hospital I visit, I’ll administrate for you.
When I come back, I’ll bring a paycheck…

So kiss me and smile for me.
Tell me that you’ll pray for me.
Hold me like you’ll never let me go.
'Cause I’m leaving on a highway,
Know that I’ll be back in a week.
Oh babe, I hate to go…

  1. Molly would be so proud of you, quoting John Denver! If only we were walking around the Maynooth campus!
